What kind of snake is this?

Soon you will have an amazing debate about what type it is and who knows more about it, but probably not a definite answer, so if you get any more pics, it will be so much easier on all of us! I dont know or I would save you the trouble. I, myself, am waiting for the backlash of standing up for people that dont know EVERYTHING about snakes! but there is some great people on here that might know, and hopefully help you out.

 I’m Going to Go With . . .

Indigo Snake for $400, Alex . . .

And I’m not positive, and I’m not going to argue (some of the other "authorities" are already likely to develop PTST from some of the metaphors I’ve been slinging, and I’m not a jerk without a conscience, contrary to some opiniongs) Size is critical here . . .

Here you go . . .

Link

If it is, this one is on the endangered species list, so I trust you’ll act accordingly (and get somebody knowledgeable to move it away from places it might encounter a feral cat or raccoon).

 Sorry, Typo . . .

That should be PTSD, there, and if asked for specifics, an Eastern Indigo Snake . . .

The second link on the one I posted gives some very pertinent information on this one... Looks like a beaut to me . . .

I’m gonna have to say that isn’t even a snake. Look closely at its head and body. It looks alot more like one of those glass lizards.

I Like The Lizard Idea, Now, Too . . .

Still not certain, but I always love it when someone demonstrates some-outside-the-lines thinking, regardless of outcome . . .

I hedged my bets with that "size is critical" comment (and managed to sneak in some info in the meantime).

So how big is that dried leaf it was resting its head on? Two inches or hand size . . . Could make a difference . . . And of course now that I’ve lectured on how perceptions can be influenced, I’m seeing earholes that may or may not be there . . .

Here’s a picture you can add to your poker chip stack, Gottem . . . I’m taking a break until the next hand . . .

Assuming it is a glass lizard with an intact tail, that’s a pretty impressive specimen . . . Not as impressive as an indigo snake, but still mighty fine . . .

After looking at tons of pictures of the Eastern Indigo snake, then comparing tons of pictures of the Eastern Glass lizard, I would have to put my opinion on the lizard. The Indigo snake just doesn’t have that looooong streak of pale color going all the way down to it’s belly like the lizard does. At least not as pronounced. Of course, I could be wrong...I am wayyyyyy far not a professional. :D Just thought I’d give my opinion. ;)

Haha thanks. It was actually a dead giveaway for me. Something about its head jumped out as non-snake right away. Its eyes and mouth is what I went by. Plus it looks like a legless skink. That "head only" pattern is pretty distinct. I just signed up to hopefully help out the OP and I feel welcomed already :)

Wasn’t going to reply because after about 20 minutes of researching snakes in fl i had decided it wasn’t a snake, but probably a legless lizard, but then didn’t want to pour another 20 minutes into research on a possible wild goose chase, but for what it’s worth, i’m 99% sure it’s not a snake, that other 1% being if it is, then it’s someone’s escaped pet, because it’s not native to your area. :-)

Just going by the first picture alone, that’s a legless lizard (aka glass snake). I’ve lived in S FL my whole life, I grew up catching them! Don’t see many of them anymore.

Whoever said indigo is crazy, lol, sorry...that looks nothing like an indigo!

 I’m Not Crazy . . .

Just capable of making mistakes (and owning them if an honest and sensitive correction is offered with appropriate evidence).

Now if you’ll read my three posts above, you’ll see I backpedaled pretty quick . . .

It looks more like an indigo to those who haven’t seen one (or a legless lizard); stuff like that is what influences one’s perceptions . . . And indigo snakes do have a bit of variety, and sometimes identification is tough from a picture. While I was googling up some pictures (looking for the color scheme; the salmon color on the belly really bothered me). I came to the conclusion that two of the "Indigo snakes" claimed (both in trees) had a possibility of being black racers (and I’ve never seen a black racer, just the local western variety).

There’s so much B.S. and nonsense about snakes (and actual misinformation that is spread by so-called "authorities") that I find an open mind a "must". Most of the time I’ll hedge my bets, but if a gunfight breaks out, well . . .

And here in Utah, planet of the close-minded, prying them open closed minds sometimes requires the rhetorical equivalent of TNT...

Did someone just say brown water snake? That is a legless lizard. It was obvious from the first picture. Congrats to the first guy to get it right. Not a snake. Legless lizard.
