 Green Inauguration

Well, there it was 2 million lefties in DC. Probably all rabid greenies too, worried about CO2 and Globull Warming. Yet why would such environmentally conscious people reduce a Park to a trash heap and walk away?

FOX News

Pack in. Pack out.

The Presidential Inauguration Committee is hoping that the estimated 2 million people who come to see Barack Obama sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday will do like good hikers everywhere do: leave Washington, D.C., as clean as they found it.

Thousands of people have volunteered to lend a hand in what is being touted as the "greenest inauguration in history," and for many of them that will mean picking up trash, recyclables and even horse manure along the Mall in Washington after Obama takes the oath of office.

"Just as we are committed to making this the most open and accessible inauguration in history, we are also committed to making it the most environmentally sensitive," Inauguration Committee spokeswoman Linda Douglass told FOXNews.com.

"This will be the greenest inauguration in history, because we have tried to be mindful of the potential effects on the environment that a large crowd could have. We are trying to do everything we possibly can to return Washington, D.C., to the same state in which we found it and to reduce our own footprint as much as we can."

I was there, it was insane. For the record, I’m not a "lefty"...through my college I was able to go for only about $6 (the cost of a metro card). For that $6 I got a round trip to Washington DC via coach bus, tons of awesome snacks, and the chance to go to an inauguration...unfortunately I couldn’t see any of it from where I was, the mall was full by the time we got there, which sucked, especially since we had to get started on our trip at 2 AM
But anyway, yeah with that insane amount of people there was a lot going on, and lots of garbage to be made and left (though not by me, I’m more of a cleanie than a greenie, hehe) There was also a lot of anonymous groping and such going on, and tree/port-a-potty climbing...an interesting sight and experience.

I don’t think I plan on going to any future inaugurations lol

Nice pic Dagobert. Sadly, the ’tears’ you seem to be refering to are those falling for the coming death of our Republic. Stay tuned as the elected Socialists (Obama/Pelosi/Reid etal) do their best to dismantle what is left of it after the Carter/Clinton/Bush-43 Administrations.

 Green Inauguration

from Foxnews:

The scene looked more like the leftovers of a massive college frat party.

Heaps of plastic bottles, food wrappers, soda cans, and newspapers, which blanketed the National Mall Wednesday morning, were a stark contrast to the stateliness and splendor of President Barack Obama’s inaugural ceremony a day before.

One hundred tons of trash were collected by city and federal sanitation workers, according to Department of Public Works public information officer Linda Grant.

In comparison, 40 tons of garbage were collected in New York City’s Time Square on New Year’s Day 2009 -- after one million people attended the celebration -- according to the city’s Department of Sanitation.

Grant said Washington’s massive inaugural cleanup effort began at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"By 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, we collected about 90 tons of the garbage," she said.

Early estimates of the crowd ranged as high as two million, though the National Park Service and Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty have now put that number at 1.8 million -- the largest inaugural crowd the city has ever seen.

The cleanup area extended well beyond the National Mall and parade route, city sanitation workers said.

Approximately 300 workers assisted in the effort. The city used 20 mechanical street sweepers and 12 trash packers to compress the garbage, Grant said.

"We also had 12 leaf vacuums to rake trash into the curb space and then suction it up, which worked really great," she said.

And giant septic trucks took to the streets in the wee morning hours, suctioning waste inside the 7,000 portable toilets used during the inaugural festivities. Many of the toilets were placed on flatbed trucks to be cleaned and then later reused.

Grant said that the largest bulk of garbage was left behind by vendors selling President Obama souvenirs -- though she said there was a wide range in items left by inaugural revelers.

"There were even people’s sleeping bags," she said.

Oh, the humanity of it all, all those environmentally conscious people there. What ever happened to pack-in, pack-out? Oh, thats right, thats only for those who are not anointed as being ’green’.

The mess left behind would even shame a Green Iguana, much less someone who, at other times, claims to ’care about the environment’.
