IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.


The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.


We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.— That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.— Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.


He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.


In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.


Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.


We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

lol I love how the thought of being called a communist is threatening. I find it funny; people who believe global warming is augmented (not necessarily caused) by human activity are basically considered liberal...and then liberals become classified as either socialist or communist. They’re not the same thing, and I don’t think any of them should be considered ’bad’.

And for the original post, you agree. Yet, if I wanted to chop down trees, or fill in a pond on MY property, perhaps build a fence on MY property (to keep illegals out) you might feel a need to try to prohibit that. Private property is a cornerstone to liberty.

But AMERICAN property belongs to all of us, and all of us should have a say in what gets built on OUR property. I would be curious what you actually know on the subject. Based on this statement, I am guessing nothing.

The reason I say that is Global Warming is very much real, that is not the argument. The argument is whether or not it is being caused by humans or not.

Read a little history and you will find many global temperature fluctuations that lasted for long periods of time (major one occurring in the 15th century), sometimes raising temperatures significantly (you know, a GLOBAL WARMING). It is happening, it’s just a question of whether or not it’s natural or man made.

That fact you make this statement tells me that haven’t looked into the issue too far.

I think "Global Warming" isn’t real because it’s not a fact...look at many different sources, most if not all say that we don’t know enough about this to know it it’s real or not. There are assumptions, but that’s what "Global Warming" is. It’s a thesis that the world is growing warmer each year from man. I will see the truth that the Earth is actually getting warmer from man when someone shows me evidence. You are right, I don’t know much about the subject, but the thing is, who does? Maybe in 10 years there will be good evidence that the world is warmer from mankind. For now, I’ll keep a close eye and monitor any evidence that passes by. Do you understand what I’m saying?

There really are two issues here.

1) Anthropomorphic Global Warming - This is the idea that mankind has the power to, and IS affecting the climate of this planet for the worse. This idea is a load of Hooey and is being used to try to control the general populace thru "Carbon Footprint" and "Cap and Trade" for industry. All about the money and control.

2) Climate Change - This is Real. However, it is driven by natural forces we can not change. The Earth has had Ice Ages and then Marmed Globally. Then had Wam Periods and Cooled Globally. All without the presence of a single SUV or Coal Plant.

The Earth changes. It has, it is and it will.

Different issues:

Why do people protest at soldiers funerals? Go to hell you hippies...

’Guns should be banned to prevent criminal activity’...gang members and felons don’t obey the law anyway, why should we take the 2nd amendment away from good honest americans trying to protect themselves? Not to mention the many who shoot skeet or target very competitively...if guns are banned and aren’t sold anymore, gangs and felons will just steal even more often to get there weaponry. No sense in that at ALL.

Uhh let me think of another to discuss...Congress...my fathers ideal reason for why this country isn’t run right is these high paid officials...like the saying, "Best government we can buy" or something like that...sorry

1 more, really it’s a fact. I remember through a study that most people under the age of 18 I think, have the same ideas, opinions, and party as their parents. I’m lucky my Dad is so smart...sometimes lol I think how global warming believing democrats spread their ideas and fake info (not real yet) is kids. Some (not all) kids these days are more gullable, and stupid than ever. TV is a BIG contribution to many things that have become problems today. Most of this paragraph is just thoughts and feelings...how do you feel about this stuff?

People protest at soldiers’ funerals because they don’t think they should have died as a result of war...it’s a horrible place to protest, and most do support the troops themselves, it’s just the thought of them dying so violently in war that leads to protest.

On the gun issue I agree, it’s our right to own them, and people will get them illegally, as they are doing right now, even if they were banned. I think the world as a whole would be nicer without guns, but while they’re here we might as well have them, even just as "security".

As for the party identification, I think it’s true to an extent. We all learn most things from our families, my family is republican, and I grew up thinking that liberals were basically horrible people, even though I had no idea what a liberal even was. Then I got to high school and kind of did a complete 180 turn around, I don’t know if that was my way of "rebelling" or what...then my views kind of evened out over time. I try to accept most viewpoints, but I tend to avoid extremes on either side. For the most part I try to see where people are coming from and why they think in certain ways, that way I can understand it better from all sides.

Protesting at soldiers funerals - a thorny issue. It is really a Freedom of speech issue, if done without interfering with the funeral. However, it IS rude as all get-out. And those protestors are doing something that really is not wise, in that the poeple there may be having a tough time emotionally and could just decide to ’protets’ the protestors in a slightly more physical manner. If someone were to wade in and let the protestors feel their wrath, I think that should be a protected activity too.

The 2nd A, today, has been portrayed as being for ’hunting and sport’ activities. This is bull-hockey. It is there for one reason only. To give citizens the ability to defend themselves, their family and property from those who would do them harm. Period. All people opposed to guns should be forced to place large colorful signs in their yards declaring their homes and persons to be "Gun Free Zones". Let me know how that works out for you.

Don’t get me started on Congress. They are at the root of most of the countries problems. And they are enabled by increasingly Socialistic americans who believe that the Gov’t can and should solve all their problems and take care of them. Listen to the public, "I want free health care, I want you to make me safe, give me, give me, give me." It can be said that a country gets the Gov’t it deserves. Stand by.

You sound like a thoughtful person. I do not know your age, but I would recommend you read Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. It can be a difficult read, it was for me, it is kind of over written in ways, but the philosophy and message are so profound and eyeopening.

Yes, children, in general, do form opinions that can mirror their parents, good or bad. It is my right as a parent to educate my child in what is right and wrong. Liberalism is Wrong. It is a mental disorder. It is the idea that you do not own the fruits of your labor, that they can be forcibly taken from you for ’better’ things. That the ’elites’ know better than you, do not question them (See Hillary, Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, the AlGoracle, et al).

Todays public, in general, thinks in sound bites. Give them a 15 second shpiel on the ’news’ and it becomes truth in everyway.

I agree with both of you...I just think it is totally wrong to protest at such a saddening time. A soldier gives his life to defend our country and protestors show up and it doesn’t matter if they protest peacefully or disruptfully, they shouldn’t do it. If you were related, would you want someone saying that war is wrong and the person died for no reason? Congress I know is an touchy issue...I can’t really say much more...a sucker is born every minute, more like every 10 seconds...I mentioned I can’t vote so under 18 is it? Face it Clawed, there is a place in the world for war, it is Necessary at times when the more reasoned diplomats fail and things go in the toilet. Always give Peace a chance, and when necessary, give War a chance too. Those protesors should be happy there are people willing to give all to this country, not be protesting at their funerals. War is bad, but can cause good. Look at Germany and Japan today. Stick around a few years, Iraq may be an example too.

"The whole world would be nicer without guns" Well, it would be nicer too if we had free home delivery of ice cream, but that’s not happening either. Bad people exist, and perhaps it might be necessry to defend yourself. Perhaps you’d prefer to defend yourself with sticks?

As far as you turning away from being "Republican" - Good Job. I do not identify with a party as such, but with conservatism, to be precise. Liberalism is a mental disease based in the belief that the belongings of others can be taken away if they might be ’needed’ somewhere else.

If you are young and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are older and a liberal, you have no brain. Think about that a bit.

I feel WW2 was a great example of war at a high cost, but technologies today have solved what we lacked back then. People protest and complain that 4000 lives have been wasted, but look at the HUNDREDS of thousands lost in WW2...the 4000 were brave and loved men and women I know that. Liberals act like they know everything happening in Iraq and that everything we are doing there is terrible. Well I can tell you that us americans probably don’t even know the majority of what’s happening there. Lately it seems we are winning a few more battles and starting to do some good. News these days are mainly democrat (besides CNN) so they obviously don’t show the good sides
