Help Save The Cal Desert Tortoises!!!

Hi everyone, here in southern California we have a real crisis happening and we need your help! An army base here in Mohave(in the desert) does desert training for our military, and on fort Irwin there is a large area of federally protected land, the natural habitat for the desert tortoise, the army wanted to use this land to expand the area they already use for tank training!!! At first we thought it would never be allowed because it would be breaking a federal law, but they went ahead and started moving them anyway! They are relocating these tortoises over 10 miles away to an area that is not sutible at all!! Many have turned up dead! Most of their radio tracking devices were removed! Two tortoiuses who managed to get there with their transmitters still on made the 10+ mile hike back to their own burrows! Our military is doing this and spending 8.5 million dollars to do it! I dont believe it could cost that much to move a a few hundred torts 10 miles away! You can help, no matter where you live, by sighning the petition to stop this we need 10,000 signatures and weve got about 930 now! Please go to http://tortoise-aid.org/desert_tortoise_survival_alliance.html and then pass it on to all your reptile, animal loving friends! Thank you!
