 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Dimand_dragon_

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Praying mantis

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Any Mantis.

Sexing and Characteristics:

There is one way, but it is not 100% accurate, females have 8 lines on their abdomen and males only have 6.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

Nothing has to be used, but i recommend either hay or paper towels, as it makes it easier to clean. Watering is rater simple, just spray the inside of the container.

Lighting and UVB:

I use old reptile lights that contain both UVA/UVB, but that is not necessary. you can just use an incandescent light bulb.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Always keep the temperature in ranges from 70-90 degrees F. humidity should be Kept low, as high humidity encourages mold growth.

Heating and Equipment:

An incandescent light usually works for heat but an under the tank heater does work better but it is not needed.

Caging Provided:

A one gallon jar works, place screening on it with rubber bands holding the screening on. Bigger is OK, but don’t make it so big that it can’t find the one or two crickets that you place in its cage. So smaller is kinda better.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

These little buggers only eat other insects, like crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, flies, meal worms, super worms, wax worms, moths, and any other insect you can think of.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None is needed, but if you plan on feeding these to a Herp <.> then you might want to dust the insects your feeding them with reptile supplement.

Maintenance:

These guys are easy to raise there is a great website that sells eggs and they cost $11 American plus shipping and you get about 2000 mantises so you keep as many as you can and let the others go. These guys can be breed but its not that easy.

Some Words on this Species:

These make great bets and food for your herps so raise them for what ever you want. My chameleons really love these and so do my Leos. And there fun to watch.
