Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have a broad tail and swollen cloacal area (rear).

Substrate and Water Needs:

Fish gravel or sand is good.

Lighting and UVB:

None required.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Room temperature is perfect. If you wish to hibernate keep them at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit for a few weeks and them warm them up slowly when you re ready to bring them back out.

Heating and Equipment:

None required

Caging Provided:

A ten gallon tank will hold 3 newts. Give a small land body and a few aquatic plants. Fill it to the top and place a lid on firmly, they are strong for their size.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed mine freeze dried tubifex worms, but not all newts will take this item. If they reject this, you can feed them earthworms, crickets, mealworms, etc.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

N/A

Maintenance:

Clean when the water gets a little foggy (this is not often). I use a gravel siphon for cleaning the gravel and change the water 25% every other week but this is not necessary.
