 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Shadow Knight

Years Experience:

1 to 2 Years

Species:

Japanese firebellied newts

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

firebellied toads

Sexing and Characteristics:

The newts perfer the water and only come out when they’re really hungry. And the toad is usually above water and floats on the water sometimes. T have no clue about their sex though

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

My tank is about 2/3 water seeing how most of the animals like the water

Lighting and UVB:

Just a normal aquatic lid that came with the tank. The bulb however gives off a good amount of heat

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temperature is usually a little above room.

Heating and Equipment:

Only heating is the light and i don’t have a filter. I just make sure it is clean.

Caging Provided:

Just a normal aquatic tank with a light on the lid

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

They don’t like tubifex worms or at least they won’t eat them. So i feed my toad and newts blood worms and other little insects i can find that can’t hurt them. The bloodworms however i have to dangle them over the toads head to get him to eat them. And no i’m not afraid of a bad diet or them getting hurt because i fed them insects. Because if it was harmful to them than they would know and not eat it.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

N/A

Maintenance:

Cleaning the tank of the floaties and stuff isn’t fun but that’s what i get for having pets. I also suck out the rest of the blood worms that the newts don’t eat.

Some Words on this Species:

Newts are awsome pets to have. I’ve had them for a 2 or so years and only lost 2 out of 3 ive had. The toads on the other hand I’m 1/2 and 1/2 Because my sister opened the lid and he climbed out and sadly dried up.
