Care Sheet Information:

GENERAL DISCRIPTION:

Varanus Melinus has only been discovered in about 1977. Then first breed in captivity in about 2007. They are from the Mollucus Islands in Indonesia. Males get 4-5 feet. Females get 3-3 1/2 feet. They are a very intellegent, active, tame, COOL, and FUN species. DON’T BUY A WILD CAUGHT SPECIMAN! THESE ARE NOT A GOOD BEGGINER MONITOR!

FEEDING:

Babies will accept crickets, butterworms, superworms, goliath horn worms, roaches, krill from a jar, can O’ snails, mice, and small fish such as frozen silversides. Adults will eat nightcrawlers, large roaches, mice, rats, chicks, quail, hardboiled eggs, crayfish, shrimp, caned jumbo krill, frozen silversides or smelt fish, goliath horn worms, superworms, can O’ snails, and thats about it. Use whole prey items!

TEMPATURE,HUMIDITY, AND LIGHTING:

You will need a heat admitter(which doesnt admitt light) for night. and a day light for day. They like high humidity because they are from the rainforest. You may use a fogger or spray down the tank twice a day. Keep the temp about 80*F. 100 -110 8F basking spot.

HOUSING:

A baby can use a 45 gallon tank. 1 Adult may use a 6x4x8(lxwxh) foot tank. They will need a hide above the ground. I suggest to glue a large cork tube to the wall. Put moss in the hide. You need a lot of vines and branches and plants fake or real. For substrate use eco earth or cypress mulch. Enough to bury itself.

WATER:

They need a large enough water dish to swim. i suggest using a filter unless you are willing to clean it alot. They love water!

Hope this was helpful:)
