Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:
All Agkistrodon Piscivorus.
Sexing and Characteristics:
Males tend to be larger then females. They average about 36-42 inches in length.
Mostly Active During:
Both
Substrate and Water Needs:
Anything you are comfortable with really. Aspen, mulch, small pebbles, and newspaper are some of the common ones.
Lighting and UVB:
Lighting is optional, but I suggest it. What are they doing when you see them in the wild (normally)? Basking. They love to bask, so why take the option to do so away?
Temperatures and Humidity:
Room temperature is good, but with a basking spot. They thrive in 70-85 degrees.
Heating and Equipment:
N/A
Caging Provided:
A 40 gallon breeder SIZE is fine - but do not use a fish tank! 3’ wide by 2’ deep by 18" tall is a good sized cage.
Diet:
Carnivorous
Description of Diet:
Feed an appropriate sized mouse or rat every 2-3 weeks. These snakes have a tendency to become overweight.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
Maintenance:
Overall a easy species to take care of. You should have a lot of non-venomous snake experience, and then a mentor before even thinking about getting any venomous snake.
Some Words on this Species:
These are my favorite species of snake ever. They require a lot of concentration though, and don’t let your concentration slide for 1/2 a second. Be safe, and be smart. Good luck.
