Desert Night Lizard

Sexing and Characteristics:

Very slight, the males have larger pores on under side of hind legs.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

Silica free sand

Will not drink standing water. Mist lightly every few days.

Lighting and UVB:

5% uvb bulb or higher, and a 25 to 50 watt uva bulb.

Temperatures and Humidity:

70-85 degrees, over 90 is dangerous for them.

Humidity should be kept under 50%

Heating and Equipment:

The uva bulb should be sufficient for heating
A hygrometer and a thermometer
a spray bottle
something to sift the sand with

Caging Provided:

I keep three of them in a twenty gallon, but a ten gallon should be enough room for around eight of them.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Small crickets and mini mealworms for adults
feed the juveniles fruit flies

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust food with calcium a couple times a week

Maintenance:

Sift the sand once a month
make sure there are no crickets living and growing in the cage once a week

Some Words on this Species:

They are a fairly active lizard both day and night. They exhibit some interesting behaviors, and do best in a colony. They live in the remains of fallen joshua trees and other yuccas so provide some in their cage.
