Years Experience:
5 to 10 Years
Species:
Fire-Bellied Toad
Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:
They can be green or brown and are active when they want to, night or day.
Sexing and Characteristics:
The females are bigger and usually wider
Mostly Active During:
Both
Substrate and Water Needs:
They need a peat moss and soil mixture for half the tank or possibly more. they need a large water bowl in a corner that they can get in and out off. it’s best to use a long flat bowl with a layer of gravel on the bottom
Lighting and UVB:
They seem to like dark better, with either a fluorescent light or natural window light, non-direct
Temperatures and Humidity:
They like tropical temps, as like a bit of a wide range of 70-85 degrees during day, and cooler at night of course. they will stand as low as 60 degrees but don’t count on it. they NEED to be misted everyday, preferably more than once. a back-round coconut fiber climbing mat can help with the humidity
Heating and Equipment:
They don’t really need a heat source, just maybe a light that emits some heat, but not a heat lamp, unless you like fried toad. they are somewhat low maintenance.
Caging Provided:
I have a full fledged diverse reptarium, but they need at least a long 3 gallon glass aquarium with a lid! they will escape. and they enjoy fake leaves and other stone caves and hiding places
Diet:
Carnivorous
Description of Diet:
Crickets, crickets, crickets! that’s the jest of it. they also seem to like moths and meal worms, like moths in your own home. flies are good too. no veggies.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
Use a type of cricket dust, you don’t really need to much of that kind of stuff, they seem to ignore it.
Maintenance:
Clean the water bowl everyday, cause they also use it as a toilet, which is why you should have a layer of gravel. and clean the walls of the cage because they climb.
Some Words on this Species:
They don’t like to be held. they also like to climb on sticks, and fake plants, mine even found out how to climb up the glass. they can take down bugs their size, so don’t worry how large the buggy is.
